Who We Are
Uptime Alliance (Formerly Oxygen Alliance) exists to ensure that essential medical equipment remains functional and available for patient care. Our work is guided by three strategic pillars: advocacy, education, and innovation, all aimed at empowering biomedical engineers and strengthening healthcare systems nationwide.
Founded in 2021 as Oxygen Alliance during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization initially focused on addressing a critical challenge in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs): non-functional medical oxygen systems. These life-saving devices were often unavailable due to poor maintenance, contributing to preventable loss of life.
As our work expanded, it became clear that oxygen system failures were only one part of a broader challenge. In many settings, up to 70% of biomedical equipment was non-functional due to limited maintenance capacity, shortages of spare parts, insufficient training opportunities for biomedical personnel, and competing national priorities.
Our Work
Our sustainable initiatives are designed to empower stakeholders across the biomedical ecosystem and build long-term resilience in healthcare systems. These initiatives include:
Conducting situational analyses
Supporting biomedical engineers and technicians through national associations
Developing the BME Konza app
Producing more than 150 training videos and webinars
Through these collaborative efforts, Uptime Alliance works to ensure that life-saving equipment remains functional where it is needed most.
